5 Restaurants Not to Miss in Zell am See

Crazy Daisy’s

This place also features on our ‘Where to Drink in Zell am See‘ list but is much more than just a bar. The ground floor restaurant and patio area serves food all day and nothing on the menu will disappoint.  There is a wide selection available and service time is usually very good, so if you’re looking for quality food without the usual restaurant waiting times then this might be the place for you. The staff here are fantastic and it’ll probably become your go to place no matter how long you’re in town.

What to order:  The ribs here are especially good although only available on the evening menu after 6pm. Otherwise try the pizzas or fried rice which are both excellent.

Pizzeria Giuseppe

Giuseppe’s is located right in the center of the pedestrianised area of Zell am See. The upstairs restaurant usually always requires a reservation for more than two people and although there is another bar area downstairs which also serves food it doesn’t offer quite the same atmosphere. As you would expect from any pizzeria, all of the pizzas are of a very good quality.

What to order: Despite the pizzas being so good what actually kept drawing us back to Giuseppe’s was the lasagne, it’s not to be missed.

Brasserie Traube

This restaurant is actually part of the Hotel Traube located in the center of Zell am See. It can be reached either through the main hotel entrance or a more direct doorway at the rear of the hotel (Down from the K1 bar). This restaurant is very popular and will require a reservation 99% of the time. It has one of the most atmospheric interiors of any of the restaurants in Zell am See and the food is also some of the best you’ll find. This is a place for meat eaters with the steaks, ribs and burgers all proving very popular.

What to order: The beef noodles in the ‘From the Wok’ section are fantastic, as are the ribs. The portions are very large so starters aren’t necessary (maybe share some nachos).

Kupferkessel

This restaurant sits on the main road through Zell not far from the train station. It’s much larger than the other restaurants and has a huge menu with plenty of options if you have a fussy group. Despite it’s size it’s decorated very well and doesn’t lack a good vibe. The restaurant is very popular with locals and it’s easy to see why, despite the wide variety on the menu none of the meals disappoint.

What to order: The giant wiener schnitzel is large enough to feed a small army but is delicious if you fancy a challenge (they’ll wrap up your leftovers to take home). The burgers and pizzas are also good here.

Zum Cäsar

This is one of the trickier restaurants to find in Zell am See. If you can find the Castle Bar located in the middle of the small park in front of the bus station, there are some steps opposite which lead down to Zum Casar and Dolls (Stripclub – nothing to do with the restaurant).  Perhaps due to it’s location this restaurant can often be a bit quiet during the week but it’s still somewhere we ate often and have encouraged many people to visit who have all loved it.  Despite listing itself as a pizzeria and italian restaurant it’s all about the Greek food here, it’s also one of the best options for a quick takeaway in Zell.

What to order: If you’re eating in then try the ‘mix sawlaki’ or any of the other options from the meat section of the menu. Takeaway option: Felafel kebab.

Have you been to Zell am See and tried any of these restaurants? or maybe you have somewhere else you’d recommend?
