So you\u2019ve decided to spend your precious vacation time at raves and EDM festivals. You are undoubtedly in for a blast of epic proportions. Still, it\u2019ll be helpful to employ a few strategies in advance of your trip in order to ensure that things go smoothly\u2014i.e. sans epic meltdowns, lost friends, or bodily discomfort. Whether you\u2019re heading to Electric Daisy Carnival in\u00a0Tokyo<\/a>\u00a0or Electric Zoo in\u00a0NYC<\/a>, here\u2019s how to prep for the ultimate EDM vacation so that you can enjoy it drama-free.<\/p>\n

1. Read up on the venue in advance.<\/h5>\n

Once you\u2019ve purchased tickets to a festival or rave,\u00a0check out the venue\u2019s website<\/a>\u00a0to learn if any items are prohibited from the grounds as well as what amenities will be on offer. (For example, some festivals have started going \u201ccashless\u201d\u2014meaning festival goers can load money onto a wristband and leave the credit cards at home.) While you\u2019re at it, print out the show lineup and a map of the festival grounds so you canplan your route in advance<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2. Pack layers.<\/h5>\n

EDM festivals involve lots of dancing and require being on your feet all day. Do your body a favor and\u00a0pack layers that are comfortable<\/a>, breathable, and appropriate for the weather. Even if the day starts out warm, it\u2019s a good idea to bring along a hoodie or light jacket in case the night turns cool. If you have room in your backpack or fanny pack, it\u2019s also a good idea to bring an\u00a0extra pair of socks<\/a>\u00a0in case yours get wet or dirty during the show. Perhaps most importantly? Remember to\u00a0wear comfortable footwear<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3. Eat and drink well.<\/h5>\n

Dancing for hours under the beating sun\u2014it\u2019s a blast, but it\u2019s also tough on your body. Give your body the best chance at feeling okay by the end of the night by\u00a0eating a nutritious meal<\/a>\u00a0before raves, packing healthy snacks, and staying hydrated while you dance the night away.<\/p>\n

4. Bring the right toiletries.<\/h5>\n

While you simply won\u2019t be able to maintain everyday hygiene at a show or festival, you can approximate cleanliness with a few key toiletries. Consider\u00a0packing baby wipes<\/a>for tackling grime on your neck, armpits, arms, and feet in addition to dry shampoo, sunblock (an absolute must for summer shows), and\u00a0hand sanitizer<\/a>\u00a0for post-porta-potty cleanup.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ll be camping at a festival, pay-per-use\u00a0showers may be available<\/a>\u2014bring along flip flops, a bathing suit, and cash if you want to take advantage of these facilities. Also be sure to bring your\u00a0standard toiletries<\/a>\u00a0such as toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, deodorant, etc. And don\u2019t forget to pack a\u00a0basic first aid kit<\/a>\u2014stashing one of these in your pack can save many a headache (literally) in the event of minor cuts and bruises.<\/p>\n
