Episode 1 – The Sinking of Memories.

It’s not every day a super hero is born, however on the 18th September 1987 special forces were at work. Years were spent perfecting his skills in private, the few who knew doubted his ability but soon all was to be revealed.

On a routine superhero surveillance mission down the Nam Song River not all was well. A damsel in distress could be heard for miles around crying:

“Poooooii – have you got the camera? POOII I think I’ve dropped it”

Instantly Super Boyfriend knew the magnitude of the situation, to be called by his other non-given name of Poi meant something was seriously wrong.  After comforting the fair lady and putting her mind at ease with a cup of tea and a chocolate digestive biscuit, super boyfriend began the search.

It seemed an impossible task, the fast flowing river surely swept the camera away and with it, all the memories. No task too big,  he got to work.

Battering through strong currents and huge rocks Super Boyfriend refused to give up. Just when it seemed to be beyond him something shining in the distance caught his superhuman awesome vision, fighting the urge to write it off as ‘just another fucking shiny rock’ he dove his hand deep into the water fighting off the vicious river sharks (why not?).

The battle seemed to last for hours, the sharp rocks making it impossible to keep his balance while the circling sharks grew ever more confident.  Again and again they attacked, each time inflicting more and more damage. Luckily super boyfriend had been watching a lot of Nat Geo lately and had learnt how to fight off the infuriated beasts with his bare awesome hands.

With the sharks scattered it was time for his moment of glory, he reached deep into the water but overtaken with excitement fell flat on his face after slipping on a rock. Not dwelling on the moment and with super awesome boyfriendness he lunged back into the unforgiving waters a second time.

As he lifted the camera triumphantly from the murky water the crowd of completely average unsuperhuman bystanders cheered. On its return to the fair lady the camera was embraced like a small child. Despite feeling completely inadequate next to this incredible man she offered to treat him to some fried noodles and a beer lao later that evening. He casually responded that he would swap the noodles for an extra beer before disappearing into the distance feeling content and happy with his newly inflated ego.

Like we said it’s not everday a super hero is born, Kirsty is a very lucky girl, even if I do say so myself.

Monica February 28, 2011 at 4:21 pm

Haha, this made me laugh! Can super Poi recover non-water resistant cameras from rivers (preferably in working condition!)? I could have done with you a few months back!

Super Poi can do anything, I must have been saving a cat from a burning tree that day and not heard your call – Super Boyfriend <3's kittens and talking in the 3rd person.

Lol. sweet! but when one has no supe-boyfriend handy around, one has to embark on the die for your camera mission oneself!

one time I was scuba diving w/ the camera loosely strapped on my wrist. but w/ a gush of current, it swiftly slipped off of my wrist. saw it ascending w/ the current, i looked at my computer, -20m, should i or should i??

i did and spent the rest of the day paranoid of getting bends… but i didn’t 🙂

Super Boyfriend March 2, 2011 at 3:12 pm

Is he trying to take my title? that’s even more impressive than a camera. Are you sure it wasn’t a stream?

Hah, great post. I’m glad you make clear reference to the part about a super hero not being born every day. Really takes the pressure of for us completely average unsuperhuman type.

So does the camera still work?

Super Boyfriend March 2, 2011 at 3:08 pm

It does indeed (waterproof – hence why it wasn’t in the dry bag!)

Abbey Hesser March 1, 2011 at 10:12 am

Dear Super Boyfriend,

I recently read an article about your super brother (Henry Cavill) and was wondering if you could hook a sister up? I know you super heroes all run around and play poker together on Tuesdays and whatnot. And being that I am single and in the need of someone to save my kittens (that is not a metaphor, I have actual cats, animals) and save my camera from forest fires and tsunamis, I could really use an extra set of hands (READ super powers) around the house…

Thanks a million,
Single in Spain

This seem like a fair request and being the super awesome hero I am it seems only right to grant your wish, I’ll pass on your details but maybe if you get in some life threatening situation shortly it could speed things. Like all of us he’s very busy but can’t say no to helping someone (and the subsequent media attention…)

Laura March 1, 2011 at 12:32 pm

So glad he found your camera! That automatically means he’s a keeper 😉

As an eyewitness to this incredible event, Poi is indeed a super boyfriend. The camera rescue was dangerous and he performed it with spectacular grace and bravery. Well done, Super Boyfriend, well done.
