Liberty Dive Resort – Bali

Liberty Dive Resort – Bali

Posted on 28. Jun, 2012 by in Indonesia

We might have given surfing a go in Bali but the real reason we were so excited to enjoy island life again was the chance to do some more diving.  Indonesia is a bit of a heaven when it comes to going underwater and we contemplated many short flights to nearby hotspots from the local airport.

However after reading lots about Tulamben, it seemed we wouldn’t need to head that far afield for some great diving.

Tulamben is most famous for being home to the USS Liberty wreck although, it has a number of good dive sites and plenty of dive resorts and shops to choose from.

As usual we hadn’t planned a lot and realised a couple of days before we intended to head to Tulamben that we hadn’t booked a thing.  From previous research (good old trip advisor) we knew the two places we wanted to dive with and sent them both an email.

Much to my surprise I received an almost instant reply from Liberty Dive Resort despite it being past 10pm.  After a few email exchanges our stay was planned and confirmed the following morning.

We arrived at the resort after taking advantage of their private transport option (Bali was our holiday before going home, we’ve been on enough crappy minibuses over the last year and whatever) and were quickly taken to our room to get settled in before having to deal with any of the usual tedious bits and bobs.

The view from our room over pool no.1

Having booked into the standard rooms we weren’t expecting anything amazing but were pleasantly surprised when we entered.  The room was large with a good sized bathroom, plenty of cupboards and storage space but the best bit? We had a patio area in front of our room that lead out to one of two pools and a mini fridge stocked with beer, perfect.

We went for a wander around the rest of the resort and we’re amazed to see how lovely everything was, the lower half of the resort is home to some very nice looking cottages and a huge pool all in gorgeous garden area.

The restaurant served fantastic food and the staff are all very helpful and always available to help with anything.  During our stay Kirsty enjoyed many (too many) massages pool side while I took advantage of the mini bar and with everything from the restaurant to the diving available on tab it’s easy to get stuck in.

Liberty Dive Resort was the perfect place to relax after diving and with the wreck literally at the bottom of the road in easy walking distance, it’s in the perfect location as well.

Our divemaster introduced himself the night of our arrival and from then on all decisions where made by us, we told him where and when we wanted to dive and he made it happen. The equipment was also very good but I’ll tell you more about the diving in future posts.

I know what you’re thinking, they’ve clearly paid you or given you one hell of a discount to write this.  Well, no. There’s no ‘partnerships’ involved in this one, just a place we enjoyed so much we wanted to share it.

Seeing as it’s supposed to be 109 degrees here in Tennessee this weekend, I really want to do a swan dive into both of those pools!

That is hot, do the public pools full of kids not do it for you?

Bali has some absolutely amazing diving spots … you chose one of our favorites. Should you get the opportunity to dive in Bali again, we highly recommend giving Padang Bai a go!
