Dan

Who are you?
“Collins” “Danny-boy” “Collywinkles” “Double Edge” … but you can call me Dan. Born 21 years ago in a small town in Wales (The country next to England for those who ask me if Wales is a place in England). I’m often ridiculed for being so proud about being Welsh.

What’s the deal?
I originally didn’t plan on becoming a travel blogger. I moved to Australia and set up a blog called ‘Dan in Australia’ so that my family and friends could keep up to date with me but after a few months of being in Oz I found the travel world too addictive. I started mapping out other places to go to and suddenly found myself in the heart of the travel blogging world. Realizing my blog would limit me to Australia; I switched to “Adventures with Dan” and since have been seeking out mini adventures everywhere I go.

Who is your favourite Welsh person? Gareth Bale or Geraint Thomas? Or maybe even Imogen Thomas?
I love the fact all of those names are deemed incorrect spellings according to my spell check. But my favorite Welsh person has to be Charlotte Church. She’s such a classy bird… tells it how it is and has a belting voice.

Tell us a bit about your previous jobs!
I’ve had way too many jobs to tell you about all of them, but I’ve had brief stints working as a Post Man, Tattoo Artist, Photographer, Care Home worker, Classroom assistant, DIY store assistant, apprentice architect, grocery store assistant, photo retoucher… the list goes on! The jobs I’ve spent the most time working in are SEO/ Digital marketing… I’ve worked for some pretty big companies around the world doing it; Moneysupermarket/ Travelsupermarket, Subaru, Versace, Myspace, The Australian Labor Party… the best part is I’m only 21! My CV is awesome.

And now you work with planes, How does it feel building them but not being able to fly them?
Who says I don’t get to fly them? I’m having flying lessons you know! But seriously, building planes is so awesome! After seeing how they are built I’m pretty sure I’ll never ever fly in one again, too many horror stories I could tell you… I doubt many people can say they have eaten their lunch INSIDE the wing of an airplane either. But seriously, it’s awesome.

If you could be an animal what animal would you def not be?
A fly. I don’t even understand what purpose fly’s have in the world!

Dan makes a new friend…

Why on earth did you think starting a blog was a good idea?
I have no idea. I blame it on you other travel bloggers for making it seem so easy.

Where do you expect to be this time next year?
Somewhere in Europe. Not quite sure where yet… I would like to be in Antarctica but I highly doubt I’ll be able to afford that just yet! I’m looking to be in Iceland near Christmas time though so I can see the Northern Lights.

A big thanks to Dan for taking part, great to have you.

This is the first time I came across you, Dan 😀 Anyway, I’m so jealous you are planning to visit Iceland to see the aurora! I never got the chance when I visited in August 2009.

Awesome post!
I too am a fellow proud welshie :o) It’s a little disheartening that some unfortunate people out there who havent had the opportunity to travel, think Wales is in England!- they all go away knowing that its a country of it own though after saying it to me! – hahaha

You have had some amazing jobs!

Enjoy the rest of ur travels and let us know how amazing the Northern Lights are 😀

Great interview Dan.
haha I can relate to the Welsh thing. I’m a Geordie and am forever being asked what part of Scotland am I from (if they do manage to understand me at all!)
