Welcome to round 22 of ‘Meet a Random Traveller’. Although we have hit the road now, we are still looking for new random travellers as we will mix them up between bloggers and “normal” travellers! So this week it’s a blogger….

Random Traveller #23

Who are you?
An avid traveller but new to the travel blogging world, I’m 27 and live in Melbourne, Australia, with my lovely boyfriend, Matt, and a crazy cat called Motley. I love learning languages and am currently trying to get my tongue around Spanish and Arabic. One of my new passions is photography, having just picked up a beautiful new DSLR in a fit of spontaneous shopping at Johannesburg duty free.

In the real world, I work in PR for a global company. Every so often I get the chance to escape my cubicle and explore the world. You can check out my recent travels at www.rebeccaandtheworld.wordpress.com.

Don’t you have a home to go to?

Yep, and it’s an awesome place. I love Melbourne but look for every opportunity possible to leave the sunny shores of Australia to see what’s beyond our borders. My passion for travel started at a young age, when I used to read the Atlas for fun (oh dear, I can’t believe I’m freely admitting my nerdiness). Alas, I didn’t get the chance to get on a plane until the ripe old age of 21, so I’ve been trying to make up for my late start ever since.

Where have you been?
Australia (of course), New Zealand, Thailand, Mexico, Guatemala, New Caledonia, the United States, Vietnam, East Timor, Indonesia, Singapore, Panama, Costa Rica, and I’ve driven through Belize, but I don’t think that one counts. In August I just got back from volunteering in South Africa, which was an incredible experience.

Most of these have been my travels, but I’m also lucky that my job often sends me to far and distant lands.

Where are you heading to?
This year Matt turns 30 so to celebrate (commiserate?) we’re heading to Japan in October, a country he’s always wanted to visit. Next year the plan is to practice Spanish somewhere in South America, and also get back to South Africa for a friend’s wedding, which will be a traditional Zulu wedding – fun!

What’s your favorite place so far?
Hmm, this is tough. Can I have three? Mexico because it’s an amazing place and it was also my first solo trip, East Timor because it’s untouched by tourism and the people are so resilient even after so many years of atrocities, and South Africa because it’s also incredible and I have many wonderful friends there.

What’s in your bag that you are yet to touch?
I always carry way too many books, thinking I’m going to have soooo much time to read. That’s never the case.

A big thanks to Rebecca for agreeing to take part in this. Check them out on Twitter at @rebecca_arnold.

Awww, I heart Melbourne, what a great home to return to when you can’t be on the road!

Most definitely! But still gotta get out as much as I can 😉

BTW, loving the Brazil posts – hoping to get there next year so you’re giving me a lot of inspiration!
