One Month To Go!
Posted on 26. Jul, 2010 by Kirsty in Blog, Planning
So we only have one month to go now! (Did the title give that away?) Like I’ve said for every month marker it has come round so quick, each one being more and more significant, this of course being the biggie! Are we prepared and just waiting for the departure date to come round? Nope. We’ve still got loads to get done, so its panic stations all round.
To make things worse (how can things be bad we’re about to set off on the trip of a lifetime) Kirsty is away in Devon for two weeks with her parents so I’m left to do all the hard work myself. At least she is getting to spend some quality time with her parents before we disappear off, for who knows how long and where.
Whilst on the subject of where, we’re still not really sure what we’re doing after China yet. Its getting to that point now where we are starting to wonder if maybe we should have planned more. “No”, is of course the answer but heading off half way across the world with no real plans, is going to take some getting used to for us travel newbies, it’s normal to be nervous right?
Despite spending most of last month trying to promote the Radisson hotel competition we entered, we did get a couple of bits done. We finally got round to getting our visa’s for China sorted and they should now be back on their way to us. We also followed the crowd and got some (business/advertising? Not sure what to call them) cards made with Moo cards. When they arrived, a few days after ordering, I was well impressed with the quality especially considering how cheap they are, so definitely a good buy.
As for the competition, as you probably guessed we didnt win, I definitely would have mentioned it by now….. the best position we got to was 20th, even if it was only for a few hours, not bad considering over 11,000 people entered. A massive THANKS to everyone who helped out and voted! In a way I’m glad the competition is over, we can now get back to sorting things out for our trip and working on our blog, both of which were a bit neglected over the past few weeks.
On the non-travel front it has been a busy month as well, all in the same week we had Kirstys Birthday, her Graduation and our two year anniversary. Not one of these days did I actually see Kirsty, so the celebrating has to wait, they’ll be plenty of time for that though as not long from now we’ll be spending every single day together, Isn’t Kirsty a lucky girl!
So to sum up, we’re going away in four weeks, were not very prepared, we dont know where were going and we’re not going to see each other for the next two weeks. Never mind, several leaving dos are nicely planned, so we’ll get through them (and the subsequent hangovers) and then worry about the rest of it after!

I remember feelings of the 1-month mark — a swirl of everything!!!
Good luck getting everything together that you need to and then sorting out the rest once you’re on the way. I’ve enjoyed reading about the lead up to the trip and can’t wait for the tales once you’re off and on your way

I’m jealous! Wish we were leaving for our trip in a month (we are getting married then though, so that’s something big to look forward to). Even though you don’t get to see each other much in the lead-up to your trip, sounds like you have a ton of adventures planned that you will experience together soon. Good luck with the preparations and I look forward to reading all about your travel in China!
ps. great cards!

Congratulations! I hope you have a great day!
That’s the thing, we’re going to have all the time in the world together soon so it’s nice that Kirsty can spend some time alone with her family before we go!

I am SO excited for you guys! I love you cards. Who designed them? They are super simple and awesome.
Also, Poi, make sure to send your woman flowers since you didn’t celebrate. *cough* Even if they are cheaper ones. *cough*

Heeeeey Erica! We got the (mini)cards done with Moo Cards! http://ow.ly/2h2Xz It’s all done with templates so you just chose the colour schemes and the words etc. You can use your own images though which would be good for a superstar photographer like yourself!
I don’t think it’s a good idea to buy Kirsty flowers, they will be dead within a day! I could buy her some packing cubes? or is that not romantic enough?

Wow, 1 month, I can only imagine all the stuff running through your head right now. By the way, #20 out of 11,000 is impressive.
Next thing you know, it will be 30 min before your plane takes off …

Thanks, it was a lot of effort to reach 20th and I think we annoyed a lot of people by constantly asking for votes.
That’s what I’m worrried about, I have 5 days between finishing work at flying away, that should be plenty of time for all the last minute bits.

AWESOME!!! You two must be so excited. I totally remember the one month mark, and it’s exciting and nerve-wracking and stressful all at the same time. It’s totally natural to be nervous, but just remember that everything will work out, and once you’re on that plane, it won’t matter if you forgot one thing or something didn’t get done or crossed off your list. You won’t have a care in the world, and it’s the best feeling EVER. Just think, one month from now you will be able to do what you want when you want for as long as you want (or at least until your money runs out).
Enjoy this last month cause it is going to FLY by.

I just came from China visiting Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai (with the World Expo!) Enjoy your upcoming trip. If you’re not yet sure where to head next, come by the Philippines.

I love that you got a BACON one, ooh keep that for me. Bacon aside, Moo cards were one of the best things I purchased, people love them and it makes it so convenient that you don’t need to go looking for scrap paper to give people your details.

it seems to be one of poi’s favourite words, so it seemed fitting to write it on the back of a business card!
i think that was our main reason to get them too, plus they look pretty nifty!

The 1 month mark already, that is pretty awesome! I cant imagine all the feelings you are feeling. Sorry to hear you guys didn’t win (I voted very often) but oh well now you can focus on the trip and enjoy the time leading up to it. I love the business cards (where’d yall get order them from) they are too cute!
Well good luck w/ everything and cant wait to read stories from the road!

thanks for voting, we were really touched by all the support we had!↲The cards are from moo cards, you can get them in a variety of set designs or upload your own pictures. We liked it because you can really personalise them

Oh man, that month is going to go by very fast. We still have about 10 weeks left but I know that it’ll be going by faster and faster every day.

it’s weird to go from counting down the months, to weeks and now to days! It’s a bit of a strange one for me as i’m on holiday for half the time! I’d recommend it, but i’m not sure poi would!
