Goodtime Resort, Koh Mak

We recently got invited on our first press trip. We were asked to go and stay on Koh Mak by Goodtime Resort.

We had never heard of Koh Mak, but were told it was about 5 hours drive away from Bangkok. We later found out that not many people, including Thai’s knew about this little gem. However, many many many people have heard about it’s big sister Koh Chang.

Koh Mak is easily accessible, after the drive there is a stunning 40/50 minute speed boat ride.We travelled there by bus from Ekami Eastern bus station, the same bus takes travellers to Koh Chang and other outlying islands. It came as a surprise just how many people got off at the stop for Koh chang, the only remaining people were us and one other couple, they to were also going to goodtime resort, an early indication we were heading to a nice place.

We arrived at the island and were immediately mesmerised by this tropical paradise, pure golden sand, over hanging palm trees and crystal clear blue water that you only think exists on TV.

Goodtime resort is perfectly positioned in the centre of Koh Mak, where a few minutes walk in either direction will take you to a gorgeous remote beach.

The main highlight of our time on Koh Mak easily being the incredible sunsets we experienced each night with a drink in hand on what felt like our own tropical paradise. Some nights we were the only ones on the beach, and at it’s busiest there were a grand total of five of us.

Even in high season the island can only hold 400 people guaranteeing the island always keeps its peaceful relaxed vibe. It really feels like your own tropical island!

Activities on the island are limited, three dive shops offer snorkelling and diving trips and bicycles and mopeds are available to explore the island further. Further attractions have been avoided to ensure the islands remain a peaceful paradise, so you won’t find any jet ski noise ruining your slumber on the beach.

Should we ever be lucky enough to have any big writing projects to complete, Koh Mak would appeal to me as the perfect writers retreat. Peace and quiet, few disturbances but at the same time so much beauty around to inspire. Imagine writing all day under a palm tree or the balcony of your own Thai House over looking the island before relaxing at night with a swim as the sun comes down.

Goodtime resort offers traditional style thai homes in all shapes and sizes situated very spaciously in an amazingly well kept tropical garden. Each house is different and nicely furnished and with so much garden space, privacy is not an issue. Goodtime also has a restaurant serving well priced and quality food which we enjoyed every night of our stay.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Goodtime Resort and cannot recommend it enough as a quiet tropical getaway, however if you’re looking for a party, this isn’t the place to go.

You should have eaten at the local restaurant right next to GoodTime. Awesome Thai food cooked by a local family and for a fraction of the price of Goodtime. Why eat in a resort restaurant every night when there are so many better cheaper places? And the pizza at Cococape is excellent too 🙂

We were invited to stay at Goodtime and as we were reviewing the place it seemed only right to eat at their restaurant.

The owner of goodtime actually recommended the place you’re talking about however as we found ourselves by the beach most lunch times and tried ate down there.

Thanks for your comment and checking out our blog.
