Zante has for the past few years gained a somewhat notorious reputation for itself. If you are unaware of this, good for you \u2013 just go and explore and you\u2019ll have a great time whether on a fleeting visit or on a two week stay. However the island has in the past been portrayed as a place where young crowds head to for two weeks of partying, leaving not much else for other visitors to explore.<\/p>\n

However this could not be further from the truth. Like the islands of Ibiza and Majorca, there are certainly lively areas that make for perfect all inclusive packages<\/a>. But there are also some tranquil spots which have more than one surprise up their sleeve for those who visit.<\/p>\n

Shipwreck beach cc RobW_<\/p><\/div>\n

Shipwreck Beach<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shipwreck Beach is perhaps the most famous area on Zante and is in fact one of the most photographed beaches in the world. On the beach sits the wreck of a boat which ran aground in 1983 after it fled from the authorities as it was believed to be carrying contraband onboard. The wreck sits in an isolated sandy location which giveaway the reasons why it is referred to as smugglers cove. Situated on the north east coast of the island, the beach is a must for all visitors to Zante.<\/p>\n

The Blue Caves<\/strong><\/p>\n

Situated in the far north of the island are Zante\u2019s Blue Caves, which ever since they were discovered in 1897 have been a favourite with visitors to the island. The white rock and the blue of the sea illuminate the caves and are the perfect place to fill up your camera\u2019s memory stick. The area is a snorkelers dream and even if you do not fancy getting your hair wet you can see others exploring the underwater life during the peak summer months.<\/p>\n

Zakynthos Town<\/strong><\/p>\n

If beachside attractions and the deep blue sea do not get your juices flowing, head to Zakynthos Town. The capital of Zante was rebuilt from 1953 after it was damaged significantly by an earthquake and the rebuilding has allowed it to blossom into a town full of life and activity. The Strata Marina is the busiest part of the town where visitors come and go throughout the holiday season. For a touch of culture head to the Museum of Byzantine Art which is open from 8.30am-3pm Tuesday to Sunday. There are numerous other sights to explore, including the old fort which overlooks the town from above.<\/p>\n

There are many beautiful paces to discover in Greece. The islands too offer just as much to travellers, holidaymakers and backpackers \u2013 just make sure that cheap zante holidays<\/a> do not get overlooked when you are deciding where to go next!<\/p>\n
